Can a kundli be made without a birth time?
A personal kundli is a map for a particular moment and place. Without the moment, software can still draw a chart by silently choosing one—often 12:00 noon—but that drawing is a noon chart, not a recovered birth chart. The distinction matters because the ascendant and houses can change while the calendar date stays the same.
Some questions are much less time-sensitive. If a reliable record already gives both people’s nakshatras and padas, star-based matching can use those values directly. Reference tables and measured score distributions need no personal details at all. The finder keeps those cases separate instead of treating every astrology question as if it required the same inputs.
What an unknown time changes
Lagna and houses
The ascendant is tied to the local horizon and is therefore strongly time-dependent. House-based Manglik readings, planetary houses and many divisional-chart placements inherit that uncertainty. A confident house number produced from an invented time is precision in the interface, not precision in the evidence.
Moon sign, nakshatra and pada
The Moon moves more slowly than the ascendant, so these may remain unchanged across a limited time range. They are not guaranteed merely because the date is known. The honest way to use an uncertain family time is to run the birth-time sensitivity check and see whether the relevant field changes across the tested offsets.
Name-based and date-only shortcuts
A name does not encode the planets or local horizon at birth. A date alone also cannot identify the ascendant. This page therefore does not offer a name compatibility score, guess a time, or relabel a Panchang noon snapshot as a janam kundli.
How to choose a safe next step
- If the time is written on a hospital or municipal record, use the complete chart tools.
- If a family time could be wrong by more than 15 minutes, leave time blank and use the sensitivity tool’s full-day sweep.
- If both stars and padas are already known, use the star-input matching tools directly.
- If no reliable birth information exists, use reference pages and do not claim a personal verdict.
The longer explanation of what a remembered time can and cannot support is in the four-minute birth-time test. The broader boundary—what this site refuses to predict from insufficient data—is published in what we do not predict.
