What this tool computes
It takes one birth chart, works out where Mars actually sits, and then runs the Mangal dosha test five separate times — once under each of five documented schools. For every school it prints the verdict together with the rule that produced it: which houses that school counts as afflicted, and what it measures those houses from. Five verdicts, side by side, from one chart.
The two choices behind every manglik verdict
A manglik reading is made of two decisions, and most reports state neither.
The first is the house list. The North Indian list omits the 2nd house because the verse it descends from omits it; the South Indian list omits the 1st for the same reason in a different text. The merged list that a great deal of software ships is the union of the two verses and appears in no classical text on its own.
The second decision is the reference point — whether Mars is judged from the ascendant alone, or also from the Moon and from Venus. This is the one that matters. Holding everything else fixed, changing the house list moves the share of charts flagged manglik by about 3 percentage points. Changing the reference point moves it by about 29.
Across the same set of charts, the flagged share runs from 11.7% under the narrowest school to 73% under the widest.
What the result does and does not mean
A split result is not a defect in the computation and it is not two astrologers being careless. It means the schools genuinely conclude different things from the same planetary positions, and 61.4% of charts measured are manglik under one school and clean under another.
What the tool does not do is tell you anything about a marriage. It reports what named traditions conclude and how commonly they conclude it. Whether a family treats a verdict as decisive is a matter for the family, and no calculator has standing there.
So am I manglik or not?
The question has an answer only once a school is named. If three of the five flag your chart and two do not, both of those are correct readings of their own rule. The useful next step is to find out which house list and which reference point the astrologer who read your chart was using, because that is what the disagreement is about.
Is a wide house list the stricter, more traditional one?
Not in any straightforward way. Every list on the page traces to a cited verse, and the narrowest of them — Astro-Vision (serious Kuja dosha only) — is narrow because it counts only the placements it treats as serious. Age of source does not sort them, and neither does severity of tone.
What about cancellation?
Every tradition that raises Mangal dosha also lists conditions under which it sets the dosha aside, and those conditions differ as much as the house lists do. The tool names the ones that apply to your chart and cites the text each comes from. It describes what a tradition prescribes; it makes no claim about what a prescription achieves.
