The 9 conditions that can refuse a match on their own, regardless of the total score. These are not remedied by a good score elsewhere, which is the part most reports leave out.
Confidence is stated, not hidden. A rule resting on a modern authority is a weaker claim than one resting on a classical text. If you are checking our work, that column is where to start.
| Rule | Applies to | Condition | Source | Followed by |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| VETO-VP-1 | bhakoot | If Vedha AND a 6/8 rashi position both exist, the marriage is refused even with Graha Maitri and Vashya | SAP — VP panchanga (15b §8.4 BK-10, final clause) modern authority | all |
| ND-STRICT-GBP | nadi | GBP dissents from every cancellation: irrespective of guna score, same Nadi should not be accepted | GBP panchanga per SAP: "irrespective of guna score, same Nadi should not be accepted" modern authority | opt-in only — disabled in named presets |
| RJ-2 | rajju | If both are in Udara (Nabhi) rajju the match must be avoided — no cancellation applies | OP panchanga per SAP: "if both are Udara Rajju it must be avoided" modern authority | all |
| CJ-2 | all | Common janma rashi with the BRIDE's star preceding the groom's (Stree-Purva) — reject | Garga, Brihaspati and Bhrigu, via B.V. Raman, Muhurtha §12.3 classical | south raman |
| CJ-4 | all | Same rashi, same nakshatra AND same pada — reject, except for nine named stars where it is cancelled if both are in the 1st quarter | B.V. Raman, Muhurtha §12.3 modern authority | south raman |
| CJ-5 | all | Different nakshatras but the same rashi is NOT sufficient for the pairs Bharani–Krittika (Aries), Pushya–Ashlesha (Cancer) and Dhanishta–Shatabhisha (Aquarius) — these are forbidden | SAP — OP, VSKP, SKU and RMP panchangas modern authority | all |
| DP-1 | all | Destructive padas, BRIDE ONLY: Mula p1 kills the husband's father, Ashlesha p1 his mother, Jyeshtha p1 his elder brother, Vishakha p4 his younger brother | B.V. Raman, Muhurtha §12.5, with Sanskrit modern authority | south raman |
| DK-RAJJU | rajju | Bride and groom belong to the same Rajju group; the consequence depends on the shared group and only a named Rajju exception can cancel it. | B.V. Raman, Muhurtha; Saravali; Prokerala; astroved — the groups are unanimous. 15b §11.9 modern authority | south raman, astrovision, kerala |
| DK-VEDHA | vedha | The bride and groom birth stars form one of the documented Vedha pairs, creating a blocking condition. | B.V. Raman, ePanchang, RahasyaVedic, OP and VSKP — all identical. 15b §11.10 modern authority | south raman, astrovision, kerala |
What this reference holds
This is the complete set of sourced veto conditions in our matching rule registry. A veto is not a deduction from thirty-six points and it is not a remedy. It is a rule under which a named tradition can refuse a match on one condition alone, even when the numerical total looks acceptable.
Why a good score may not settle the reading
Ashtakoota adds eight kootas into one total. Tamil and Kerala matching also use rules such as Rajju that are read independently of that total. When one of those traditions treats a condition as a veto, stronger results elsewhere do not automatically cancel it. That is why the table names the condition, its source and the schools that follow it instead of translating it into points.
A veto, a cancellation and a remedy are three different claims. This page contains vetoes only. Cancellation rules have their own sourced reference; this site does not currently publish a remedy-prescription dataset.
How to read the table
“Applies to” names the matching test involved. “Condition” states what must be true before the veto can fire. “Source” identifies the text or named authority, while “Followed by” prevents a regional rule from being presented as universal. Confidence is shown because a modern or second-hand source is weaker evidence than a rule located in a named classical text.
Does every tradition use every veto?
No. A North Indian score, a Tamil porutham reading and a Kerala reading do not contain the same stopping rules. The school column is therefore part of the result, not a footnote.
Can a cancellation remove a veto?
Only where the source explicitly provides an exception for that veto. The engine keeps the two rule types separate and reports the exception by its own rule id; it never assumes that a high total outweighs a veto.
Is this a prediction about a marriage?
No. It documents what a matching tradition concludes from a defined condition. It does not establish what will happen to a couple, and this page makes no such claim.
