What this tool computes
Sade sati is defined against the rashi your Moon occupied at birth. Saturn takes about twenty-nine and a half years to travel the zodiac, so it spends roughly two and a half years in each rashi. Sade sati is the stretch while it passes through the rashi before your natal Moon’s, then that rashi, then the one after — three rashis, seven and a half years. The name is the arithmetic.
The tool computes your natal Moon’s rashi from your birth details, computes where Saturn is today, counts from one to the other, and tells you whether that count places you in the first phase, the second or the third. It also reports the two shorter transits families ask about in the same breath: Saturn in the fourth from the natal Moon, and Saturn in the eighth. Those are the dhaiyas, separate arrangements with their own names rather than parts of sade sati.
The part usually left unsaid
Sade sati is not a feature of a chart. It is a description of where Saturn happens to be at this moment relative to where your Moon was, and Saturn keeps moving. Everybody enters it, sits in it for seven and a half years, leaves it, and enters it again roughly two decades later. Three rashis of the twelve is a quarter of the sign categories. That gives a quarter only with equal weighting of natal Moon signs, not a measured prevalence among people or marriage candidates.
What the result does and does not mean
The result is a position and a phase, both checkable. It is not a forecast. What the tradition concludes about the transit we can describe and attribute; what it will mean in a particular household is not something an orbit establishes, and we do not claim it.
The one soft spot is the reference point, because everything here counts from a single rashi. Rashi boundaries in a sidereal chart depend on the ayanamsa, and a Moon near the end of a rashi under one value sits at the start of the next under another. When that happens the whole window shifts by about two and a half years. On the manglik axis, where the effect has been measured directly, changing only the reference point a tradition judges from moves the share of charts flagged by 29 percentage points.
Is Saturn in the fourth or eighth the same as sade sati?
No, though the two are often reported together. Sade sati is the twelfth, first and second from the natal Moon. Ardha Kantaka is the fourth and Ashtama Shani the eighth, each lasting about two and a half years. The tool names whichever applies instead of folding them together.
Why does my start date differ from the one I was given?
Saturn appears to reverse direction for part of each year, so near a rashi boundary it can enter the new sign, turn back into the old one, and enter again months later. Any single printed start date has quietly chosen one of those crossings. This tool reports where Saturn is now rather than pinning a date it cannot defend.
We are both in it. Does that change the matching?
Not in the eight kootas or the ten poruthams. Sade sati enters neither, and no score on this site moves because of it. Some practitioners weigh transits alongside a match. For any Saturn sign, three of twelve natal Moon signs are included; that count does not establish predictive value or actual prevalence. We report the arrangement and leave the weighing to whoever your family asks.
